Endorsements.
I missed this. Former Fed Chairman Paul Volcker has endorsed Obama for President. And this was back in January. Here’s former Volcker speechwriter Larry Kudlow being surprised.
Volcker was last noted in the public sphere for saying that the bailout of Bear Sterns was less than great.
The only way of knowing a person is to love them without hope.
I. can’t. stop. watching. this.
Brilliant. I want to buy Otto dinner. And travel the introduction of Perfect Stranger together. This may be the high point for the internet – I don’t think it can do better.
Cities
I saw two things online today that describe my new hometown of San Francisco. One is a Republican Attack Ad from Missouri attacking our “values” (which appear to be 50% gay dancing):
The other is a story about how Milton Friedman’s grandson is teaming up with some independently wealthy hedge fund managers and google programmers to build a libertarian dream city in the ocean. These people who are wealthier and smarter than me and probably anyone reading this blog are spending a lot of time raising money on their webpage, which has a forum site, which has a very serious discussion on how they will fight pirates while living on their libertarian island-city.
Forget the paranoid ramblings of Republican attack ads. I think San Francisco is seriously 80% dudes who spend their free time planning counter-pirate attacks in order to not have to pay capital gains on their startup options. (And they are all very short, from what I’ve seen. Like 5′2″.)
In other news of cities I’ve lived in, nanl hero Doug from Hot Doug’s stood down the machine – Foie Gras is now no longer illegal in Chicago. CBS2 has my favorite paragraph I read today:
The only high-profile violation of the ban since it was enacted was against Doug Sohn, owner of Hot Doug’s, who sold a hot dog with foie gras on it and pleaded guilty to violating the ordinance.
